New technology to facilitate accurate mapping of ‘inclusions in almost any rough diamond’

Israeli diamond grading and gemstone production technology company Sarin Tech-nologies says it is now offering a groundbreaking service to diamond beneficiators, allowing them to accurately map all inclusions in almost any rough diamond within minutes.
Current methods may take hours, if not days, to perform this painstaking task and, even then, results are highly dependent on the operator’s skill, with human error remaining a cardinal factor, says Sarin Technologies CEO Uzi Levami.
He adds that the new service will first be offered in Israel and India, where diamond manufacturers have already been testing the company’s new scanner and are excited about the results. “Following Israel and India, we expect to gradually be offering these services in other diamond manufacturing centres worldwide.”
“Diamond manufacturers will be able to obtain this service with- out committing to large investments in capital equipment,” says Levami.
For the first time ever in the diamond industry, a scanner is available that can “accurately, quickly and automatically” detect and map all inclusions regardless of their type, size and location within the rough diamond, he adds. Sarin expects the Galaxy 1000 to change not only diamond manufacturing, but also trad- ing. Levami explains that frosted and lightly coated rough diamonds, commonly traded speculatively owing to their obscure internal structure, can now be fully mapped and, “in effect, demysti- fied”.
